A post by Prof. Eric van Gorp from the Erasmus University Hospital in Rotterdam
On 11 January 2021 the Kick off meeting of Erasmus+ Viruskenner international Project - 2020-1-NL01-KA229-064532_2 - was organized. Students and teachers from ITT Buonarroti and Keizer Karel College together with many others from the Netherlands and Surinam participated in a journey through the landscape of infectious diseases.
We started with a special Masterclass for the teachers who are going to support the students together with the Viruskenner coaches. After a short break we continued with the students programme, more than 190 students participated. The Viruskenner introduction trailer was shown and there were lectures on the importance of hygiene and lifestyle in infectious disease prevention by Marlies Wagener, lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences in Rotterdam, followed by a lecture on Emerging Infectious Diseases by Prof. Eric van Gorp from the Erasmus university hospital.
Mélise Sickman and Valéry van Gorp introduced the students into the Viruskenner programme. The exchange programme is supported by Viruskenner coaches, an internet platform, website, e-learning module and online masterclass and ‘life’ Zoom events.
A message for all participants: “We hope you will have a good time and we hope we will be surprised by your creativity in finding solutions to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and future pandemics”. – Dr. Eric van Gorp
